The child star-turned-singer has been struggling with health issues and burnout in recent years, and has consequently taken some much-needed time away from the spotlight. During this time, she has acquired not just one pawsome friend, but two.

6Her First Dog Is Called Winnie, And The Second Is Called Daisy

Selena adopted her first pooch a while ago. Little Winnie joined the Gomez family and proved a wonderful addition, providing invaluable emotional support for the singer as she dealt with the fallout of her difficult breakup with ex Justin Bieber. Gomez and Winnie were content together, but in 2019 Selena decided to adopt another dog, and brought in Daisy. Winnie is white in color, while Daisy is caramel.

Taking to Instagram, Selena said ‘Winnie is here and I would like to introduce my new family member, Daisy. Winnie and Daisy are getting along very well.’

According to Selena, introducing Daisy to Winnie was a match made in doggy heaven. ‘Winnie and Daisy are getting along very well,’ Selena told fans in an Instagram story, implying that the two pets enjoy taking walks and playing together. During the video, Selena held up her new arrival to the camera and posed sweetly, showing a very loving side towards the little dog.

‘I know a few friends who are fostering right now, just to give animals a safe place,’ Selena added in her Instagram story. She appeared to be following a trend where celebrities visit animal shelters and take home a new dog.

‘I couldn’t help it,’ Selena said as she hugged the pooch. ‘I have to keep her.’

In a telling interview with Vogue, Selena revealed how she had been keeping busy over the long months of lockdown, and made it clear that her new dogs have been essential to maintaining her mental and physical health.

“I got good at roast chicken,” she told the interviewer, reflecting on what she has been up to during quarantine. “I know how to make a French omelet now, and molé.” In addition to taking up cooking, she also spent lots of time walking her two dogs with friends, in addition to ‘eating her nana’s corn casserole’, ‘doing yoga’ and ‘playing “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” on her guitar.’

Winnie and Daisy have become the new stars of Gomez’s instagram. The two dogs regularly appear, snuggled up next to their dog mom, accompanied by cute captions. Gomez often appears comfortable relaxing at home with her beloved pets, who appear to be spoiled rotten! For a birthday post, Selena posed with Daisy for the camera. Daisy wore a birthday hat and appeared very happy indeed.

1The Dogs Have Been Important To Selena Gomez’s Mental Recovery

It’s been a difficult few years for Selena, who has struggled enormously with health issues and mental burnout from heartbreak and constant pressure of stardom. Taking time out for herself after years of constant work has been a transformative experience, and helped her to get back in touch with herself, and with what is important. Her pets have been an important part of that experience, and have provided essential emotional support.

“It’s all very real to me, and I’m sure it’s just entertainment for other people, but I just—I think I had become numb to it, and it would be stupid of me if I didn’t acknowledge what I had felt because it would be inauthentic, and that’s everything I claim to be and do [being authentic],” she said in an interview.

“I know there are thousands of people, men and women, who have felt this feeling, and it’s extremely real, and on top of the social media and everything, it doesn’t matter if you’re in my position or if you’re in someone’s because you’re always going to somehow find this negative space. It’s just that’s what—that’s why I have to be careful, and I just have to take steps back and just focus on what I’m doing and no one else.”
